well u can create business cards and flyers and send them around the place. You can also put that website on your car. Also there are some programs out there that gives your website to google, yahoo and other search engines. O and if you have a myspace or use aim or anything of that sort you can always put it in your profile. good luck

If you don’t know what Meta Tags are, look it up and learn how to add in Meta Tags with whatever webdesigning software you’re using. Meta Tags help search engines find and list your website based on the keywords listed under Meta Tags

I am wondering the same thing. I did the myspace page for my website (which by the way is), I let all my friends and family know and asked them to let others know and am right now thinking of other ways to market my site.

So, although I am not much help to you, I will be watching the answers you get since I have the smae exact question. I wish you the best of luck.

Get up a page of your site in your web browser then press “ctrl + U”. That will bring up the code for your page. Cut and paste the whole code into as text editor like notepad or some similar thing. Then go through the whole page deleting all the formatting code, all the external advertising code, all the pretty colour code, the code for your payment methods - delete everything in fact except the parts of your page that the search engines can pick up.

    That will leave you with:

    1. Your headings

    2. Your sub-headings

    3. Your image names

    4. Your text descriptions and explanations

Have a look at what is left and I think you will see that all you have on that page according to the search engines is a random list of items. They are not random to you because they are all things you are selling. But they are random to the search engines because there is no reason why a travel mug and a waterproof camera should be on the same page!

Take another look at what is left and ask yourself what you are giving to your visitors. Almost 50% of all the people who go online go there to find information. Only 12% go there to find a specific product - and most of those go to eBay.

You have no ‘hooks’ for the search engines to find you and no hooks for searchers to search for you. As a result you are not getting found.

I’d suggest going to eBay and getting yourself a shop there that links to your website. There are people on eBay who ARE actively searching for the things you are offering. If you can get them to buy some of your products and to visit your non-ebay site in the process you might see some brand recognition for your shop and get more sales over time.

Alternatively, you need a radical re-design of your site to make it search engine friendly. You need keywords, you need to use them as metatags, you need to explain why your customers should get the product they are looking at ( for camping, for the best value monitor, for the best quality cameras etc), you need to show your products really clearly from all angles so people feel as if they have been able to pick the item up and look at the front, the back and the bottom. There is so much you COULD do but all of it needs lots of work.

And all of it means you’ll have to write some good solid content. This site has loads about Internet Business but I’ve given you this page because it deals with writing content.

Have a read and have a dig around. You might also want to try some Google advertising. The best guide on that subject is here:

You want number 10 on the list. It’s what Google recommends as the best guide to getting the best from the whole adsense thing - buying and selling advertising.

    Good luck,

    Destiny angel gives good advice

What is it with that yellow skyscraper ad that covers the info on the right side of the page? I couldn’t see what you had written under it and it kept following my cursor down the page.

so may be a page / column width issue here.

and also when you are looking at your site objectively, ask yourself if visitors can see immediately what it is you do

And how unique are you? are you filling a need? will buyers come to you over well known online merchants?

It also helps with some search engines to have your page title, domain name/page name and H1 more closely related

and the link referral service front and center — this is frowned upon with getting indexed in some engines.

    Hi,

I also have an online business and I am always looking for low cost methods to advertise. There is always PPC, but that can be very costly, but you will get fast, targeted traffic.

In addition to some of the excellent replies above, if you are looking to get quick response and are on a budget, you can try the following:

But, keep in mind that your site should be properly optimized for the search engines.

You should place fr*ee classified ads at Direct Matches and head over to Adland Pros, which is similar to Direct Matches.

You will find various categories where you can place your classified ads…just pick the ones that are the most suitable.

These are excellent online communities that are fr*ee to join and you can advertise your business or opportunity and get it in front of many eyes.

They also have a very good traffic exchange that you should join. Just read the instructions to join the traffic exchange.
This is another fr*ee method to increase traffic to your site.

The best traffic exchange is Traffic Swarm. ….traffic exchanges are very good to get your ads in front of many eyes. Just participate in the fr*ee exchanges. It is based on surfing the net and viewing other participating advertisers and you receive credits. The more credits you have, the more your ad is shown to the traffic exchange members.

Make sure to read the getting started section to activate your account properly.

Go to forums, including the ones at Direct matches and Adland Pro. Post to forums…do not do blatant advertising or you will get banned. Set up a signature file and put you website there. Some forums have specific areas for fr*ee ads…use those, too.

Another excellent online community is Yuwie, which will allow you to blog and connect with a rapidly growing community of friends and enable you to get your name out there.

Traffic Digger can bring you a huge amount of nearly effortless visitors to your site. Your ad will be on 7 levels of this page, being advertised by all the people who join after you…that can add up to 1,000,000’s of people seeing your ad and clicking thru to visit your site!

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

The URL’s to join the various sites can be found below in the source box.

Use Google Adwords and test, test, test. You also need to build up your credibility. Your site looks a bit questionable. Ask your visitors what they think and why they buy or don’t buy. You need to be willing to hear some criticism.

Begin with proper placement of SEO metatags which will allow search engines to index/spider your website on the Web and make your opening webpage searchable by Net surfers. Unfortunately, were you aware that your opening webpage contains duplicate metatags — two sets of and and within one metatag, there are far too many entries. The number of entries within any metatag is limited to 15 words, in plural or compound variations. And the is not localized: where’s the location of “Online Shopping Mall Store,” i.e., city, state, country?

Check out the following article which will shed more light on appropriate SEO application.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
    Yahoo.com [at?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
    very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
    at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, “Who’s my end user - is he on dialup or
DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
    is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.

    Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 60 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually up to 41 words to form a complete paragraph which
best describes one’s goods and services. It is not merely a list.

And the very last category - “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
    directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very “generic” search query
“sandwiches downtown los angeles,” taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to “LA” and of course, leave
out the parentheses (”). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where “Nazos.net”
is ranked. It’s on the SECOND FRONT [ranked 15]!
Again, Nazos.net’s high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
    according to Google’s publication guidelines.

    Good luck!
